Tips for making the most of any game and becoming a great asset to your team!
Tip 1- Know your Role: When deciding what character you would like to play, always remember that you have a role within your team. If you choose a Speedster, you are going to be extremely fast and powerful. You will be best suited for jungling (staying in the middle to collect points and helping top or bottom lane teammates when necessary). Your downfall is you have a low health pool. This makes you easy to kill if you try to fight solo you are squishy so stay safe!
If you want to be the very best and learn some helpful tips, you're in the right place! First thing's first, let me introduce myself! My name is Estrilune and I main Blastoise, Charizard, and Ninetails. Here is a recent screenshot of a ranked game I played just last night to let ya know I do have some sort of knowledge in this field. I want to show you how you too can help your team get a few victories under their belts!

Choosing a Defender means you have a lot of health, but your hitting power is relatively low compared to Speedsters and Attackers. Although you may be hard to take down, you will not make it out if the enemy team gangs up on you. Make sure you stick with and DEFEND your "squishy" hard hitting teammates for best results. See "Tip 3" for more info on sticking together!
Attackers listen up! YOU ARE NOT TO START FIGHTS ALONE WITH MORE THAN ONE ENEMY! I know it can feel so good to take down an enemy teammate all by yourself because you are such a hard hitter, but please don't let this go to your head. You may be tempted to rush forward leaving your slower team members behind to quench your thirst for blood, but all you are doing is making it harder for your team to win if you just go and die. You have a team for a reason. Your health pool is very low(making you very squishy) and one stun can cause your demise. Though, if you stick with a teammate with a much larger health pool than yours you can destroy anything in your path. Just make sure you stick together and fight the same enemy to get the best out of your situation.
All-Rounders, you have the best of both worlds. You can hit harder than a Defender AND you have a bit of a bigger health pool than an Attacker. It's honestly such a great balance if you play your cards right. This does mean that you have a better chance at getting out a sticky situation than a Squishy character and can stick with either a defender or and Attacker in any lane. Although some may argue that it's better that you help take care of the squishy characters. Play it safe, don't try to take on too many enemies at once, and stick with teammates.
Last, but most certainly not least we have our Supporters! As a supporter you do so much more than just attack. Depending on who you choose you have a variety of abilities to choose from to either help yourself/teammates or stun and incapacitate the enemy team. Some abilities can heal yourself and teammates, some abilities can stun or slow enemies, and some are great for blocking attacks! Like the Defenders though, you don't hit very hard so it would be in your best interest to stick to characters like Attackers to help you take down enemies.
You have such an amazing selection to choose from when it comes to picking a character in Pokémon Unite and each has it's pros and cons. When it comes down to it, make sure you choose a character YOU feel comfortable playing and play together as a team.

Tip 2- Stay in your lane: Remember to always let your team know what lane you will be in when the match starts, then go to that lane. This may seem a bit obvious, but a lot of players don't do this or don't know how to let their team know at all. If you don't know how to tell your team what lane you're going to or run out of time, go to a lane that looks like there are very few players. If you are a Defensive or Support character, go to a lane with "squishy"(hard hitting but low health) characters. If you are an Attacker(usually squishy) or All-Rounder character, go help out your big tough Defensive or Support characters. As for Speedsters(Pokémon like Zeraora for example), you should stay in the middle racking up points and switching between top and bottom lane to help only when necessary then back to the middle. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE MIDDLE LANE TO SCORE POINTS OR GO HELP IF YOUR TEAM IS IN TROUBLE SPEEDSTERS! It's all about balance and team work! You don't have to stay in the lane you chose for the entire match, especially if there are no enemies there at all and haven't been in a while. If you're in this type of a situation, be sure to look at your mini map and go help teammates that may be in trouble. Once you have helped calm the situation, make sure to go back to your original lane to stay up to date on what is happening there. An enemy could've noticed you left your area for a long time and might try to take advantage to get some free goals in!
Tip 3- NO GAMER LEFT BEHIND: Imagine for a moment that you're a Defensive character at half health, your teammate is a "squishy" Attacker character at full health and you encounter a half health enemy Defensive character all alone. Do you: A) Run off to go and heal, your "squishy" teammate is at full health, they'll be fine right? B) Fight the Combees and Vespiqueen next to you while ignoring the enemy. C) Take down the enemy with your teammate then do B and A?
The answer is C. I wanted to use this little example to show how easy it is to make small mistakes under pressure. The reason you want to help your squishy teammate and not just run away is because they could die extremely quickly to a Defensive character that is at half health. I have destroyed squishy full health characters before with out breaking a sweat, but I can guarantee if their Defensive teammate had stayed I would have been in a lot of trouble. On the other hand... squishy characters, if you see that your defensive character is not following you or is busy doing something else, DO NOT TRY TO SOLO ANYTHING! Your health can not take it. You may be a hard hitter, but if you get stunned or have a status affect applied to you then you are done for. I promise. Supports and All-Rounders, please stay with your team to help in these situations. A lot of times people may not be aware of their surroundings and are next to a teammate that's getting the snot beat out of them while someone is right there just killing Corphish!

The reason you don't do (B) and go for the easy kill Combees/Vespiqueen leaving your teammate to fight alone is because if they don't make it, you're next! That means you will lose any points you've collected because you'll be dead. Also if your teammate is just out of line of sight while you're finishing off a Vespiqueen, take a quick look at your minimap to double check and see if they need help.

Why don't you do (A). Yes making sure you keep an eye on your health is VERY important, but if you're a Defender, you have a VERY good chance at making it out alive if you help your squishy teammate beat one or 2 weak enemies. You can take a hit. Unless of course your squishy teammate is trying to take on a full group and don't seem to care about playing as a team. In this case, leave them. They are going to get you killed. Go heal and take care of yourself.
TIP 4- STOP HOARDING POINTS: It can be easy to accidentally hoard your points when you are trying to win, but by doing something like this you become a huge target. I am not saying this can't work. If you have great Defenders and Supporters backing you up or vice versa, then you can make a lot of progress really fast. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. I have noticed in many games I have played that what usually happens is the enemy team sees you headed towards their goal, you have so many points that it takes forever for the charge up to deposit them, and that's when they get ya. You just lost half your points or more and now you have to start over. I got the amount of points I am showing in my screenshot above by depositing points whenever an enemy goal was free. If I had only 10 or 15 points, but the enemy team isn't looking? I'm going to deposit them. You have 25 points available and your Defender is keeping the enemy team busy... DEPOSIT THEM! Another tip I would like to mention is to please deposit when you know you're alone or when you know you have a team member back you up. Going off of that last thought, if you see someone from your team trying to score a point, please don't leave them! I have had so many moments where I was about to make a deposit and right as I was about finish the charge up my teammate that was at full health would leave. I would get knocked out of what I was doing. Then because I didn't have backup I am destroyed when I could have survived if I had had help of some sort.
TIP 5- To Farm or Not To Farm: Your teammate is fighting a couple of enemies next to you and you see a lonely Audino or Aipom ripe for the picking. You would think that since your teammate is keeping everyone busy this is the best time to farm for easy points, but unfortunately this is not the case. The outcome is usually that your teammate will be taken down and you will be next. All those points you just farmed are gone. Let's say you're able to get away. Now you have to wait for your teammate to come back and try to go back in again to score your points and hopefully not lose them along the way. Always help your team members if you can whenever possible as it will affect you. Please remember this is NOT to stop you from wanting to farm easy points. Taking down the random Pokémon sitting around is the fastest/safest way to level up and earn tons of points for scoring, there is just a time and place. It's definitely not when your teammate is in trouble and it's definitely not when your team is trying to push forward. Please do not just sit there and watch your team struggle. You can make the difference between pulling ahead or falling behind just by remembering to know when the appropriate time to farm is.

TIP 6- Zapdos/Rotom/Drednaw: At the 7-minute mark of a match Rotom will appear at the top lane of the map and Drednaw will appear at the bottom lane of the map. These two will respawn every 2 minutes after they're defeated until the last 2 minutes of the game. The reason is because at the 2 minute mark of the match, Zapdos will appear at the center of the map. Each of these Pokémon serve a specific purpose that could make or break a game. Drednaw for example will grant shields to all team members on the map no matter where you are.
Not only will your teammates be granted shields(which last up to 60 seconds), you are also granted EXP that is worth almost the amount needed for a full level up. If you need a leveling or an EXP boost, Drednaw is a must to take down.
As for Rotom, defeating them grants the participants a few advantages IF and only if you can protect it. Once Rotom is defeated it will begin floating towards the nearest enemy goal. Once Rotom makes it to a goal post it momentarily deactivates the enemy's goal post shield and healing properties. This means that you have the chance to completely destroy any enemy players while your teammates score their goals. Always make sure you walk the Rotom to the goal post with 2 or more team members(this does not mean everyone needs to stop what they're doing to go an protect it). The enemy team can take down Rotom as he is making his journey to the enemy goal post so you and near by allies want to protect him. The reason you should have back up is because you may have an entire enemy group ready to take you and Rotom down. Trust me I have been there.
Now for the MOST important part of the entire game, Zapdos. Defeating this legendary bird has a chance to win your team the entire game if you play your cards right. At the last 2 minutes of the game Zapdos appears smack dab in the middle of the map. He has a ton of HP and one or two players alone can not take him down as he does fight back. Not only are you going to be fighting Zapdos, but the enemy team as well. They will also be trying to defeat him and your teammates because whoever gets that last hits wins DOUBLE point scores for the next 30 seconds. This means if you deposit 50 points it will count it as 100! I have brought our team back from the brink of losing with this advantage. On top of that the player that gets the final hit on the bird will get 30 points and their teammates will get 20. If you are able to deposit your points before enemies get you or the timer runs out 30 points will be doubled to 60 at the time of deposit. Please go help your team if you see Zapdos has appeared. You do not want to just hope they have the help they need because they may not and you could lose the game because of this.
